NORMANDY is a region (equivalent
to a State) and the 5 Landing beaches
are a vast stretch of land (about
70 miles) across 2 counties:
Calvados & Manche. In between the beaches,
you have small villages, narrow roads, rivers,
marshland, cliffs etc
I always suggest to stay at least 3 to 4
days in Normandy but if you only have one day to
see the beaches, you will not be able to do the
sites + the museums.
There are many good
museums on the subject of WWII in Normandy and
most of them have been recently renovated and
enlarged (Caen Peace Memorial,
Airborne, Utah etc
) but now
you need more time for a meaningfull visit.
In 2015, we will focus on the sites on my tours;
this way it will be less rushed (being
flexible, if there is a museum that you
consider an absolute MUST do, then let me know in
advance so that I can adapt our itinerary).
A plus this way will be some time to visit the
Visitors office (like
a free museum) at
the American cemetery at the end of our tour.
Meeting points at:
-LA CAMBE German cemetery or CARENTAN train-station:
From/to BAYEUX: add +10 euros each way
