MONT SAINT MICHEL + BAYEUX

MONT SAINT-MICHEL:
(09.00 am to 6.00 pm*)

From Bayeux it takes about 1h30 to drive to Mont Saint Michel (great roads !)
I recommend visiting it in the morning before the bus loads of tourists
arrive from Paris.
Be aware that you will have to climb steep stairs
(+ 400)
to get to the top of the abbey
I cannot guide inside but you can rent earphones
(in English)
or simply go from room to room at your own pace.

Mont Saint-Michel
Then we will have the choice of either eating on the Mont
or
(better) drive to picturesque village of Villedieu-les-Poëles
(copper center)
where we will eat in a very French nice small restaurant.

Copper workshop
Option:
After lunch:
Tour of the artisanal copper-workshop to see how pots & pens are made
(a chance for quality shopping !)

BAYEUX:
In mid-afternoon we are back in Bayeux and you have time to see
the world famous 11th c. Tapestry and the film

If time left we visit the Cathedral,a mix of roman & gothic architecture
(not to be missed the interesting crypt)

***

Light & sound show projected on the sides of the cathedral in summer time

An other possibility if you have already visited Bayeux is to drive
to Granville and visit couturier Christian Dior' s house

CAEN - PAYS d'AUGE - HONFLEUR

CAEN
(09.00 am to 6.00 pm*)

In Caen, capital of lower Normandy we will see the castle built under
William the Conqueror as well as the Men's abbey where his tombstone is.
Queen Mathilda, his wife is buried in the Ladies abbey on the other side of town.
Caen was very damaged in June & July 1944 during the carpet-bombing
necessary for the Allies to capture it.
It has been well rebuilt with large avenues and the famous Caen limestone is visible everywhere, lots of greenery as well.

Men'abbey also townhall

Picturesque sea & river port on the Seine estuary
Honfleur

Beuvron, typical Normandy village

CABOURG - BEUVRON - DEAUVILLE - TROUVILLE

Then along the "flowered coast": see "turn of the century" resort of Cabourg and drive through beautiful countryside called "Pays d'Auge"
Visit of Beuvron-en-Auge, "heritage" village
(just like a movie-set)
and sample the delicious shortbread cookies at the only bakery.
Lunch in Trouville
Quick tour of Deauville then we stay along the coastline to Honfleur:
HONFLEUR
- Short guided tour and time to browse through the cobblestones streets
lots of painting galleries,antique shops...
This charming sea & river port is located right across
from the major commercial port of Le Havre.
It is truly unique and a MUST to see on any trip to Normandy

We leave Honfleur with the hope of coming back some day
