CAEN
(09.00 am to 6.00 pm*)
In Caen, capital of lower
Normandy we will see the castle built under
William the Conqueror as well as the Men's abbey
where his tombstone is.
Queen Mathilda, his wife is buried in the Ladies
abbey on the other side of town.
Caen was very damaged in June & July 1944
during the carpet-bombing
necessary for the Allies to capture it.
It has been well rebuilt with large avenues and
the famous Caen limestone is visible everywhere,
lots of greenery as well.
